GET TO KNOW ABBEY HOUSE

Founded in 1997 by Karen Steffanoff. This historic building circa 1901 is over 120 years old, has original oak wood floors, built-in shelving, quaint office spaces, a foyer with the original staircase, decorative windows, and other vintage touches all around.

Tenants in Abbey House has included an assortment of healing arts practitioners providing services such as: counseling, esthetics, electrolysis, organic manicures, yoga, reiki, chiropractic treatment, and midwifery. Our tenants are like a family with professional relationships who often share clients and trade secrets.

Abbey House is located in the historic Hawthorne District. During World War II it was converted to war-time housing in conformance with the City of Portland’s War Housing Ordinance. The City’s associated Housing Code required minimal living areas and utility standards as seen in this document.  In the 1950’s and 1960’s the property was zoned commercial and most of the home was converted into offices with one remaining residential apartment in the basement.  This space is now known as “Courtside” containing office suites A, B, and C which share a lobby and restroom.
